Why GIGO is important
GIGO represents a rare and timely opportunity to slash waste at the transportation/terminal boundary. As at February 2010 GIGO is poised for launch in Europe, with active plans in place for launch in the USA, Canada and Russia.
The principal of FREE
The Transportation sector is averse to additional costs which have no proven benefits, but is not averse to spending when immediate and tangible benefits are flowing. It is therefore of the greatest importance that the innovation behind GIGO and the potential benefits from the widespread adoption of GIGO is encouraged by the lowest possible cost. That cost is FREE. Once benefits of the entry-level service are being enjoyed there will be opportunity to offer additional, optional, pay-to-use services.
Success Factors
To enjoy the stated benefits a rapid take-up by terminal and truck operators is important. Therefore the support of major players is of paramount importance. Research tells us that:
- GIGO must be secure
- GIGO must be operated by trusted partners with a proven track record of industry collaboration.
- GIGO must be open in terms of data standards.
- GIGO must be managed by the sector it serves so that the direction, cost and future development is in line with the thinking and needs of the users.
- GIGO needs a board of representative and senior professionals to provide Oversight and Governance.
- GIGO must be easy to install and to use.
- GIGO must be highly secure
- GIGO must be available 24 x 7
- GIGO must be available in the languages of the users
